Thelema & The Magick of Aleister Crowley We look at practical issues such as rituals, the background of Liber Al, reading the Thoth Tarot deck, and the Thelemic world-view. This course uses material unavailable to the general public, including research conducted in Egypt, and in various libraries holding Crowley's original manuscripts, notebooks and journals. Click on the Course Titles below to download the relevant PDF information/booking sheet. Thelema I: Life and Magick of Crowley - March 13th-14th 2010 Thelema II: Magick and the Book of the Law - May 8th-9th 2010 Thelema III: Mysticism and the Thelemic Life - September 7th-8th 2010 Thelema III FEATURING GUEST SPEAKERS LON MILO DUQUETTE (OTO) & MICHAEL STALEY (TYPHONIAN ORDER & PUBLISHER OF KENNETH GRANT)! All courses £155 per weekend module + lunch fees (inc. all course materials) Feedback from our previous Thelema Courses Participants looked to gain from this course … “more knowledge about Thelema and Crowley”, “a direction through the mass of writings”, “how my interpretations aligned with others”, “a background to modern paganism and practices”, “a more holistic understanding of Crowley”, “insight from the perspective of an experienced practitioner”, and “putting together existing information”. These requirements were met … “Yes”, “Yes, and Exceeded”, “Yes”, “Categorically Yes and so much more besides!”, “Yes, met far better than I expected!”, and “Yes”! What surprised participants about the workshop was … “how the course was delivered smoothly and with an easy flow”, “the setting of Thelema in a historical context”, “the unpublished material”, “appreciation of Crowley’s system in context of many other systems”, “Crowley’s personal life-story, which really added to my understanding”, “the interactive elements which were valuable”, “Crowley’s legacy in many other areas”, “how the Golden Dawn material was explained easily”, “to see Crowley the man not the myth”, and “the varied teaching methods”. The content, materials and delivery were viewed as … “excellent”, “excellent – engaging and interesting”, “relaxed and easily discussed”, “not complicated”, “thought-provoking”, “very well put-together with great handouts and materials”, “lots of gems that would otherwise not be seen or even known about”, “unique from both academic and practitioner experience”, and “excellent”. This course, as all on the Far Away Centre syllabus, is not affiliated with any particular interpretation of Crowley's work but does survey the major organisations in contemporary occultism and their background. This course offers a serious yet highly approachable introduction to Thelema and Aleister Crowley. It looks at Thelema as a philosophy and its place in the Western esoteric tradition - then go on to experience practices and texts that communicate Crowley's magic, including key rituals, the reception of the Book of the Law (Liber Al), and the designs of the Thoth Tarot deck. Throughout, the tutor will explain and explore the world-view underpinning this tradition, to enable familiarity with concepts such as the Aeons, the Gods and Goddesses of the Book of the Law, initiation and the grades of attainment. Marcus Katz will be using material unavailable to the general public, including research conducted in Egypt and notes from Crowley’s original manuscripts. There will be lecture, discussion, document examination, ritual work and meditation.
